Background
openingdoors commenced its operation in 1982 as Warrington Action for Homeless when representatives from several local agencies came together to respond to the increasing problem of single youth homelessness in Warrington. A Trustee Board was formed and volunteers were recruited for service delivery.
The Charity is fully committed to the challenges required in promoting new ways of working, both inside and outside the organisation. It acknowledges the need for creative solutions in the prevention of homelessness; to partnerships; in raising its own funds; contracted service delivery, serving the needs of service users and providing key input into supporting complex needs.
Expanding Charity

The Charity has expanded its work with homeless and
vulnerable people within the Warrington area and is
developing services throughout the North West.
The new project is called "Futures" and it works with
homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded groups
of people of all ages, with complex and multiple needs,
including mental health, drug and alcohol problems
and people with disabilities. We aim to respond to the
needs of the group to provide interventions, education, information and advice to assist them to lead a healthy independent lifestyle. Also, encouraging participation and positive contributions to the community.
The project delivers skills development courses within:

Psycho-social education (communication skills and body language)
Basic life skills with 3 hour sessions
Parenting skills and support
Counselling
Healthy eating
Anger Management
Interview skills
CV writing
IT skills
Job and course search
Life skills
Managing a tenancy
Creative approaches with 3 hour sessions
Art classes
Pottery classes
Cookery classes
Fitness and fun classes
Sewing classes
Music classes
Our Basic life skills approaches and Creative
approaches each cost the charity £45.00 per
person, per session to run and the Therapeutic
approaches cost £50.00 per person, per session.
